

1. THOMAS HOLBROOK, his wife Jane, their sons John, aged 11 years, Thomas,
aged 10 years, and daughters, Anne, aged 5 years,and Elizabeth, aged 1 year,
sailed from Weymouth on or near 20 Mar. 1634-35 with Rev. Joseph Hull's Company.
He came from Broadway, Somersetshire, Eng. Thomas Holbrook, aged 77 years or
thereabouts, deposed that he came to New England with Mr. Hull's Company in
1635, and that they came ashore at Dorchester, 7 June, 1635; that they went to
Dorchester and the Company went to a place now called Weymouth; and that after
remaining at Dorchester about a fortnight, he went with his family to the now
Weymouth, and built a house there, etc., sworn to in court, 2 Nov. 1666.
(Suffolk Court Files, 815.) It is apparent that he was born near 1589 and that
he was married to Jane , - perhaps Kingman - near 1617. He died at Weymouth
shortly before 10 Mar. 1677. There is a statement that his wife was Jane
Kingman, born near 1600, but no authentic record of this fact, has been found by
the compiler. He was made a freeman of Massachusetts Bay Colony,
May, 1645; townsman (selectman), 1645, 1646, 1651, 1652, and 1654. Ten acres
were granted to him in the First Division and thirty acres in the Second
Division, 14 Dec. 1663. (Weymouth Land Grants, 283, 284.) "Being sick
and weak" he made his will 31 Dec. 1668, bequeathing unto his wife Jane,
his sons John Holbrooke, William Holbrook and Thomas Holbrook, and unto his
daughters Anne Rennolds, Elizabeth Hatch, and Jane Drake and unto his
grandchildren John Holbrook, Peter Holbrook and William Holbrook, and to all of
his grandchildren that shall be living at his wife Jane's death, his property.
He stated that his grandson Peter Holbrook had served him and his wife in their
old age for about eight years, for which he was to have his dwelling house in
Weymouth with the orchard and arable land. This will he confirmed 31 Dec. 1673,
and it was proved 24 Apr. 1677. His inventory, taken 10 Mar. 1677, calls him
"late of Weymouth dec'd."

2. CAPT. JOHN2 HOLBROOK (Thomas') was born in England near 1622; died at
Weymouth, 23 Nov. 1699, aged "about 82 years."
He married (1) Sarah , who died at Weymouth 14 Jan. 1643-44. He married (2)
Elizabeth Stream, who died at Weymouth, 25 June,
1688, aged 64 years. She was daughter of John and Elizabeth Stream of Hingham
and Weymouth. He married (3) Mary White, who
survived him. She was daughter of Thomas and Mary (Pratt) White of Weymouth and
Braintree. He was made a freeman 13
May, 1640 (Register, 3: 187); selectman, 1648 and 1656; deputy from Weymouth,
1651, 1664, 1669, 1671, 1672, 1673; Captain in
King Philip's War, 1676. He resided in "Old Spain."
"Being weak of body" he made his will 12 July, 1699, as follows:
To his wife Mary Holbrook £50, and £10 provided she give thereof £5 to her
daughter Loring. To son John Holbrook his housing and lands in Scituate, and the
use of one-half to his now wife Abigail after his decease; the other half to his
grandson John, son of his said son John Holbrook. After the decease of son John
and his wife Abigail the whole farm to his aforesaid grandson, John Holbrook, he
to pav £40 to the six daughters of his said son John Holbrook. Unto hi.S
granddaughter Elizabeth, the wife of James Smith, £5. To his granddaughter
Abigail Porter £10, To his daughter-in-law Lydia Holbrook, widow of his son
Samuel Holbrook, deceased, for bringing up the children of his said son Samuel,
use of land adjoining her dwelling house in "Kingman's Neck," etc.;
also 40 acres near the "Physical Spring" in Weymouth, till his
grandson Joseph Holbrook, son of his said son Samuel, attain the age of
one-and-twenty. To said daughter Lydia Holbrook also £120, provided she pay her
three daughters Elizabeth, Mary and Sarah each £40 at 21 years. To his
grandsons Samuel, John and Joseph, sons of his said son Samuel Holbrook, his
lands in Weymouth and Braintree, they paying their mother 30s, each per annum
for life. To grandson Abiah Holbrook, son of his son Samuel, one-half of his
house and land in Boston at 21, he paying his mother, as his brother shall, 30s.
per annum. To his daughter Lydia Holbrook salt meadow at Kingman's Neck that was
formerly his father Thomas Holbrooke's. To his son-in-law Simon Whitmarsh £20.
To his grandson Simon Whitmarsh £20. To his granddaughter Ruth Derby £15, and
to his granddaughter Mary Jackson £15. To his daughter Hannah Pierce £50. To

Eastern neck which was formerly his grandfather's James Ludden's. To his

Edson and Josiah Edson each £15, and to his granddaughter Experience Edson £40
at 21 and 18. Unto his son Ichabod Holbrook his dwelling in Weymouth where he
now lives, and 40 or 50 acres to him and his wife Sarah, and at their decease to
Ichabod's son Abiezer Holbrook. To his grandson David Holbrook, son of his
son Ichabod, land near "Physical Spring." To Elisha Holbrook, son of
his son Ichabod, one-half of his house in Boston. To Rev. Mr. Samuel Torrey,
Pastor of the Church in Weymouth, £5. His Indian servant Anthony to have his

3. CAPT. WILLIAM2 HOLBROOK (Thomas) was born in England near 1627; died
at Scituate 3 July, 1699. He married (1) Eliza-
beth --, daughter of widow Elizabeth Pitts, who died at Scituate in 1696. He
married (2) Abigail --, who survived. She was
widow of Robert Sharp and of Thomas Clapp of Scituate. He reresided in Weymouth
till about 1663, when he removed to Mendon.
The Indians drove him back in 1676 and thereafter he settled in Scituate. He
made his will 9 Nov. 1696, providing for his wife
Abigail. To his son Cornelius he gave his lands in Weymouth, he to pay his own
daughter Mehitable Holbrook £5 at marriage. He bequeathed to his daughters
Elizabeth Buck, Hopestill Reed, Mehitable Sprague and Jane Balcom, and to his
son William, and Samuel, whom he calls eldest son.

of Braintree. She died between 2 Apr. and 11 June, 1745. (Suffolk County

died there 14 Dec. 1718. He married,
near 1688, Sarah Turner, daughter of John Turner of Scituate by his wife Ann
James. She was born at Scituate, 25 July, 1665; died at
Weymouth, a widow, 20 Dec. 1739. He resided on the Holbrook homestead in
"Old Spain." Indenture made 21 Sept. 1721, between
Abiezer Holbrook and Ruth his wife, David Holbrook and Mary his wife, Nathaniel
Symmes and Lydia his wife, Sarah Holbrook, spinster, and John Holbrook, all of
Weymouth, which Abiezer, David, Lydia, Sarah and John are surviving children of
Ichabod Holbrook deceased, one of the sons of Capt. John on one part, and
Francis Holmes of Boston on the other part, Sarah their mother being widow of
Ichabod. (Suffolk Deeds, 36: 112.) The above children sold their interest in
one-half of the tavern called the Bunch of Grapes in King Street, Boston, to
Francis Holmes on 21 Sept. 1721.
